CONCEPT

What's the basic idea of the Project?

Banksy’s work often makes political statements, covering subjects including global warming, wars, surveillance and poor working conditions.

So we though it would be fun to create A SuperHero comic of what life would be like as street artist and political activist Banksy: taking stories we find about him and filling in the blanks to create the rest.

See the adventures of this British street art superhero unfolds as he puts up his messages to the world with the help of his mischievous Monkey minions to fight against tyranny and bring hope to the oppressed people of the world.

SOAPBOX

What are we doing?

SoapBox Version 1: The Unauthorized story of Street Artist Banksy: His adventures fighting a corrupt system with the help of his crew of loyal monkeys as told in an American Superhero Style Graphic Novel.

SoapBox Version 2: We follow the semi Famous street artist growing up in a world of corruption and learn how he hatches a plan to use his unique talents to make an effect on the world around him by Fighting Hypocrisy and wrecking the plans of the Elders of Big Brother to take over the minds of the people.

SoapBox Version 3: We quickly explore the (made up) origins of Banksy as a baby learning the world around him and onto his first job as a fortune cookie writer. After years of scrawling his messages on the walls around the city he sees corruption at it worse from his local politicians. He then dons the mask, rescues his monkey helpers from the zoo, and begins to use his talents to fight crime and corruption to protect those who have no voice.

GRAPHIC NOVEL

How will it be printed and look like?

How will it be printed?

The book will be a softcover 12″x12″, 120 plus pages in glossy full color.

We will be offering a hardcover of the same size that will be wrapped in black Buckram cloth and spray-painted with the logo on the cover with our own hand-cut Banksy stencil and a custom printed dust cover.

TIMELINE

When do we plan to get things done?

When do we plan to get things done?

We have been working on the story and artwork for the past year.  In October 2014 we started storyboarding everything and laying out pages.  We have now began the final drawings and coloring the pages.

During the KickStarter promotions we will be working more on the artwork and showing off pieces of it on our FaceBook page.

We will be done with the artwork and have it printer ready about 45 days after the KickStarter is finished and send it to the printer.  The printer takes about 2 weeks to print and package everything, then it will take about 2 weeks to hand stencil the hardcovers, prepare and ship everyone their rewards.

At this time we will schedule our vandalism tour with our generous Stud and Crazy donors.

Our long term goal is to have booths in the comic circuits to promote the Graphic Novel even more.

WHY KICKSTARTER?

Why are you CrowdFunding?

Why are you using Kickstarter to Kick off your project?

Kickstarter is a great way to find out if your project has any following.  Also, we do not have the amazing financial backing that other artists like Banksy have.

You can also Donate with PayPal Here…

Why didn’t you just hit up Banksy to fund your project?

Well, we honestly didn’t think we would get an interview to actually create a truthful biography for our comic book about him.  He would probably tell us to pound salt and because of our fragile egos we are not trying very hard.  So, it was way more entertaining to just find stories about him online, fill in the blanks, and make our own version of his life might be like.  We did shoot off an email to Jo Brooks, Banksy’s PR agent, and some other “questionably legit” sources and have not heard back from them yet.  But, if we do, you will be the first to know.  (or he will show up at our front door with Angelina Jolie, a band of monkeys with guns and make us all disappear)

Are you participating in the “Kicking it Forward” Project?

Although Kickstarter frowns on our projects giving to charity, we do feel a connection to the KickStarter community.  So 5% of our budget is going back to that community in sponsoring projects we believe in as well.  We hope to build better connections with the people around us thanks to this concept.

RISKS & CHALLENGES

What are we afraid of?

What are we afraid of?

We might be Banksy’s only fans. Sad times. We have a great printer that every comic guy and coffee shop writer around us uses. They have a great reputation of quality of their printing as well as getting it done in time.

We are working feverishly to get final drawings done. We are giving ourselves about 120 days to complete and then get it to the printer. We can color and design one page a day of high quality comic art. So we feel good about getting it done and out the door to your doorsteps. However, If one of us dies or the real Banksy comes to our studio and kickstarts our asses, we might be in trouble. But we feel good that will not happen.

If there are any problems along the way you guys will hear about it immediately. I want you guys involved in this process every step of the way. Thanks!

The biggest barrier for this project is financial. Beyond publication costs, we also intend to purchase an ISBN and bar code to allow for future print runs. Since the comic is already on it’s way, our remaining steps involve formatting the digital High-Res drawings for publishing, finalizing publication and shipping details, and arranging stretch goals. There are only a few steps left, but this project can still grow along with your support.

Apple does not like games promoting law breaking, so for the stretch goal of building a Banksy game we need to be careful how we portrait it. Hopefully Apple is a Banksy fan.
